Calming the Storm

Last night, I saw the wind and rain raging outside my window. I heard sticks and things being hurled against my window and felt the house shifting against the wind. As I watched the storm, I felt so small against the power around me. Sometimes I feel like my life is raging out of control just like last night's storm...I feel like things are overpowering me and I'm drowning in the pouring rain. Even now, there are days when I see how many things I have to do and wondering when I'm going to be able to squeeze in an hour here or there to get everything done in between class and work and church/ministry events. Life seems to be blowing by and I'm lost in the shuffle...it's so easy to get overwhelmed and try to keep my head above water in my own strength . But it's in those stormy moments of life that we have to be weak in order for God to be strong. His strength is what gets us through every obstacle, every trial, and every heartache. This song has been on my heart since the storm and I think it really captures God's power in the storms of our lives.

Sometimes He Calms The Storm
Scott Krippayne

All who sail the sea of faith
Find out before too long
How quickly blue skies can
grow dark
And gentle winds grow strong
Suddenly fear is like white water
Pounding on the soul
Still we sail on knowing
That our Lord is in control

Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered "Peace be still"
He can settle any sea
But it doesn't mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves
go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child

He has a reason for each trial
That we pass through in life
And though we're shaken
We cannot be pulled apart
from Christ
No matter how the driving rain
beats down
On those who hold to faith
A heart of trust will always
Be a quiet peaceful place

Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered "Peace be still"
He can settle any sea
But it doesn't mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves
go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child
